05/09/2023 | Hybrid Symposium on New Uses of Wood: Birch for Building with Wood and the Bioeconomy in NRW

Beitrag veröffentlicht am

Invitation to the symposium on new uses of birch wood, including the official opening of the demonstration structure for building with birch on 05/09/2023 at Zentrum HOLZ.

Hybrid Symposium

Climate change and ongoing forest damage pose considerable challenges to the Forestry and Wood Sector in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). This also concerns the adaptation of the timber industry to a change in the wood raw material base that is occurring faster than previously forecast. At the same time, the transformation towards a modern, resource-efficient and climate-neutral economy is resulting in increased demand and new potential for wood as a raw material.

In order to demonstrate the potential of birch originating from NRW, the Centre for Forest and Timber Industry has, together with sector stakeholders, investigated the possible uses of the tree species birch for building with wood. In addition to initial preliminary investigations into its use in bonded timber construction products, a two-storey demonstration structure and exhibition stand for building with birch is currently being realised.

The demonstration structure and exhibition stand is to be presented at the Symposium on New Uses of Wood: Birch for Building with Wood and the Bioeconomy in NRW to the stakeholders of the forestry and wood value chain for the first time on Tuesday, the 5th of September 2023 at Zentrum HOLZ in Olsberg, Germany. At the same time, the event will address the prospects and potential for the processing and use of the tree species birch.

The symposium on birch at Zentrum HOLZ in Olsberg will take a holistic approach to highlighting the current potential of birch in NRW along the forestry, timber, wood-products and building with wood value chain.

The event also offers the opportunity to learn about current technologies of modern timber construction at Zentrum HOLZ and to hold discussions with the stakeholders of the forestry and wood value chain.

A further highlight will be the official opening of the demonstration structure for building with birch.

We cordially invite you to participate in the symposium at Zentrum HOLZ in Olsberg and to acquire information on new wood uses for birch.
